Increase Distance: Benefits of Club Fitting

Have you ever wondered why Tiger Woods hits a 300 yard drive when even your best struggles to carry 200? There are lots of factors to include level of fitness (PGA tour players today are phenomenally fit athletes); swing efficiency gained by instruction from the best and most expensive coach swings in the world; motivational coaches that help them keep the right attitude, create imagery, etc.; and, professional equipment fitting for every club in their bag and making sure the ball is perfectly matched to the clubs and the player's swing and playing method. However, do not overly despair because even with the total tour player advantages and training there are still only a handful that can consistently break the elusive 300 yard barrier. The average golfer needs to understand and accept the fact that the 300 yard drive is not possible for them. So, step one in improving their driving distance is realistic expectations.

What is a reasonable expectation for most amateurs? A 10 to 20 percent distance gain is one that can be accomplished for almost any average golfer through a couple of different ways with even larger gains possible if the player undertakes more than one of the ways.

The easiest and quickest way to accomplish the 10 to 20 percent gain is to be professionally fitted. The club-fitter will use your current swing to optimize each club in your bag. This will require a number of sessions to get all 14, but it is worth it. The fitter will work with you on each club making sure that the loft, lie, launch angle, spin rate, etc., are all the best attainable for that club. After all of the clubs have been optimized for you, then the fitter will work with you to match the most suitable ball to your swing, clubs and the way you play the game. After such a professional fitting, I have seen as much as 25 percent gain for some players and an average of about 15 percent.

If you are seeking a quick change in distance then you definitely need to work with one of the professional fitters in your area. Launch monitor sessions at the local golf mega-store or retail outlet are typically helpful, but unless managed by a subject matter expert, it will not provide the same benefits as those of the professional.

What value are such gains worth to you? They better be worth big bucks! Sam Snead is famous for having said that one can not buy a good game; and, for years that was a truism in golf. However, that adage is no longer true. Following the advice of the professional club-fitter can help you buy a much better game. However, be aware that typically your entire set will need to be replaced. That is why you need to be prepared to incur significant cash outlays.

If you are not prepared to shell out all the bucks required to get a complete new set of clubs and a couple dozen balls that are optimal for your game, then remember that you can stage the process to be less painful on the wallet at one time. The three areas that I would try to focus on in the first stage are the driver, the putter and the ball. If your budget is tight and you need to go a bit more slowly, then start with the ball; and, then proceed to the clubs one at a time. Most golfers use the wrong driver and putter and unequivocally use the wrong ball. The reason I recommend these three items to start your new game is that you will get the biggest return on investment and see the biggest gains with them. While these three will not be inexpensive, they will be a lot less expensive than a complete new set.

If the satisfaction of hitting a great drive; stiffing a 9 iron to within 10 feet of the pin; and, then sinking that birdie putt are part of your goals, then get an appointment with a professional club-fitter and follow the recommendations. You will be glad that you did and you will notice appreciable improvements instantly. And, your playing partners will get tired of your drives whizzing past theirs and frustrated with you peeling off the money to you after every round. They will also talk amongst themselves wondering how in the world you improved so much and so quickly! Good luck!

Become a Better Golfer

Are you the typical golfer looking to lower your scores? Their is one thing that can do this and all it involves is dedication. By improving your short game, you will soon see your score dropping 2, 3, 4, 5 and as you improve more strokes depending on your current handicap. When struggling off the tee I seek my short game to pull me through and finish what could be a horrible round into an average score. If you are wondering how to do this look no further.

Go to your local golf course and start off with chipping to loosen up. Next set up a circle of tees around the hole, this way you have a target where you will be comfortable with a tap in. I like to make a 1 and 1/2 to 2 foot cirlce in diameter. Although I am a good putter as well I have become an excellent chipper where I should be inside that distance 9 out of 10 times. Now that you have the circle set up practice different shots. Expierement with what you can do! Soon you will learn new shots with out even noticing you are learning them. Try hitting real low shots with a lofted wedge to get the ball to check and roll as well as flop shots when you need the ball to stop. Already believe you do stuff like this? Well have you ever used an 8 iron or 7 iron to chip those long green side rollers. The only way to get better at chipping is if you try different shots from different lengths but stay within the 120 yard range down to the 5 foot flopper depending how far you hit your wedges. That is one of the many drills I use when working on my short game.

Next is possibly one of the most important attributes of an excellent golf... A good putter. Now most amateur golfers ask themselves how do i hold it? how far do i bring it back? where do I put it in my stance? The answer to this can simply not be answered. If you turn on the golf channel and watch the pros putt their is not one person who has the same exact putting stroke as another. Here is how to figure this out. Find a grip that feels comfortable and then experiment. Get a really good read of a 10 foot putt and putt 5 different balls start at the front of your stance and work your way back until you find a comfortable position. And last do not get tense! Stay relaxed.

Next for the drill. Set up tees 2 feet away, right behind it 5 feet away, then 10 feet away, and last 25 feet away. Before starting the drill I reccommend taking a few lag puts to get a feel of the green. Lag putts are the easiest way to get the feel for a green and is what the majority of scratch golfers do before working on the 5 footers. Now start at the 2 footer and make 5 putts in a row and keep going until you finish. Or start by making 1 from each without missing in between to get yourself used to consistency. For the next practice routine I use as well as many other players is set balls around in a 3 foot diameter around the whole and do not leave until you can make 10 in a row. I know it may be hard at first but soon you will be making them 19 out of 20 times. The 3 foot putts are what will save you par or even bogey. If you truely want to be a good putter you will have to learn to be strict on yourself. Tell yourself you can not go golf 9 holes with your buddies until you make the 10 putts in a row. Eventually when you master that go ahead and move it back to 3 and 1/2 feet until your comfortable with that. I promise you if you practice, practice, PRACTICE..., you will soon be a much better golfer.

Three Tips for Beginning Golfers

Golf is a wonderful game. It can also be a horrible game. And the great thing about it is that you can experience how wonderful and how horrible it is within a 10 minute time period. You can hit a wonderful shot and then turn around and hit a terrible shot, or vice versa. But I have been playing golf for a long time now and have stumbled across a few things that I have found not only help beginners play better, but also have more fun. So here are a few tips to have more fun and play better when you hit the course!

Go with people who are patient

Golf can be a very frustrating experience for beginners. So I always suggest that when beginning, go play with people who are patient. If you go out with people who are competitive and uptight, that is just going to make your experience more miserable.

Play with people better than you

If you are a beginner and you go out with other beginners, you may have fun but you won't get any better. But if you play with people better than you, you can learn and watch to see what they do. In order to be good at any sport you have to be a student of the game and golf is no exception. So when you are out with better players "steal with your eyes" and watch how they play. It may just help you as well.

Ask Questions

Most of the time, good golfers are willing to help beginners. I have found this time and time again as when I was beginning and playing with people better than I was. Most of them were very willing to share their secrets of playing that they had picked up over the years. So if you are playing with someone who is a really good putter, ask them how they learned to putt and what they line up and hit their putts. You may start making a few more!

Remember the feeling after you hit a good shot

To be honest, as a beginner, good shots don't come all that often. But when you do hit one that feels great and actually goes where you wanted it to, remember that feeling. Remember how you swung and how the ball felt when it hit the club. And each time you step up to hit the ball after that, remember that feeling and try to recreate it.

Go easy on yourself

I have seen it time and time again. Beginning golfers play with golfers who have been playing for years and get frustrated that they aren't as good as them. Nobody likes to do things they aren't good at, but golf is about having fun, not being perfect. So when you are out there and things just don't seem to be going your way, realize that golf takes hours and years of practice just to be decent and you probably won't get there today.

The bottom line is, golf is supposed to be fun. And if you aren't out there having fun, then what's the point? So hopefully these few tips will help you play better and have more fun!

He is No Tiger Woods

He has no idea what his handicap is.

He tries hard to be like Tiger Woods, even though he'll never be like Tiger Woods.

He practices at home on his electric putter daily and dream of becoming the next Tiger Woods. If he can't even keep his balls on the fairway; how can he be the next Tiger Woods? He spends most of this time in the woods looking for his balls. Friends recommend that he should take golf lessons to at least keep his balls on the fairway; he refused. He has no idea what his handicap is.

Who is? He's a want to be Tiger; he lives in a little town called Spring Gully near Bagas Penn, in the Caribbean. He's no Tiger Woods, he will never be like Tiger Woods, he'll never meet Tiger Woods, his name is Peter Woods.

This depicts Peter Wood's vision of the ultimate golfer.

Go for Golf

Golf is an import recreational sport in this modern day. Most people with high positions like kings, managers and politicians prefer to golf than other sports as golf is regarded as sport to establish good business relationships among the golfers. Some also point out that golf promotes good health as you walk a lot, but one significant truth is golfers are simply addicted to this game.

Golf has a very simple rule. The players are aimed to hit the ball from the teeing ground or the starting point along a smooth grassy path (fairway) into a small hole with the least amount of strokes.

Golfers use many clubs while playing golf. The clubs called woods are for long distance shots, while irons are for shorter shots. The putter is used when hitting ball lying very close to the hole. Golfers know which clubs should be used as each club has a number to give them a hint. For instance, the ball will be raised 15 to 18 degrees if a ball is hit by number 3 wood.

Golfers need to choose a suitable ball, understand which club to use, and take note of weather conditions if they desire to get the ball from the tee to the hole in the least possible strokes. A light or strong breeze can make a huge different while playing golf. In additions, golf balls are also complex. Their surface pattern can affect the way the ball flies in the air, rolls on the ground and rolls into a hole.

Playing golf is not an easy task as it requires some skills and wisdoms. Maybe, this is a challenge why golfers keep coming back for the game.
