Toby Flood's Position?

Some of you may not know Toby Flood but for those who play rugby or are English, you should. He's one of the brightest future stars in the England squad. He's just 22, can play Fly-half or Centre and is simply amazing at his age.

For more information go to Wikipedia and look up Toby Flood, I am not going to waste time talking about his basic information when I should be discussing about his future positions.

So Toby Flood has finally left Newcastle Falcons to Leicester Tigers, "The 22 year old can play in a number of positions, but is expected to challenge Andy Goode for the number 10 shirt." After all, Goode's still 28, got a few years till retirement and he's experienced. But the most noticeable feature of Goode is his inconsistency ... when he's on his A Game he could challenge the likes of D. Carter & Wilkinson... when he's off form you wouldn't want him in your Sunday Pub Team. I personally agree with that after being robbed by Andy Goode after he misses a few important kicks in the League Finals against Wasps. I think Flood should go No.10 instead of Goode, Flood's best aspect is his control, the same as Wilkinson. So to pick him at 12 would be to waste his best aspect. Moreover, he's probably not physical enough to play 12, his defence is fine (Some of you might have watched England played against the All Blacks when Flood injured his shoulder after a try-saving tackle), it's just that he's not broad enough or low enough to break tackles.

Also, to play him at 12 would be to waste another of his best aspects, his kicking game, in a position where it can't be used. For sure Flood is a 10, its good thing that he moved so he can progress as a 10, rather than play out of position so Newcastle can play Wilkinson. Flood is still young; he has plenty to learn and all the potential to go up to the top level. If Leicester sticks with Andy Goode at 10, it's fine as Goode still scores plenty of points but his inconsistency is really going to hinder Leicester's progress (I seriously want to see Leicester winning all the trophies).

The following years would be vital for Toby Flood, if he played at 12, I am sure he will do fine but he won't learn much which means England loses other chance of producing another world-class fly-half. If I were the Leicester's head coach, I would definitely put him at 10. Forget Andy Goode! (I personally do not like him very much especially when he misses important penalty kicks and conversions).
