Stewart-haas Confirms Three-year Deal with Army

This is to announce that Stewart-Haas Racing has joined forces with the U.S. Army," Stewart said. "We immediately just gained a fan base of over 1.2 million soldiers who will be on our side each week."

Sources confirmed the Army sponsorship was for three years, renewable at the Army's option after conclusion of the 2009 and 2010 seasons, respectively. Attending the news conference along with Stewart and Newman was U.S. Army Major General Montague Winfield, who explained that the decision was made to move Sprint Cup sponsorship dollars to Stewart-Haas from Dale Earnhardt, Inc., mainly because of what the Army sees as "the star power" of Newman and Stewart as drivers.

Newman, who is moving to the Stewart-Haas team from Penske Racing at the end of this season, said he is excited about the new association with the Army.

"It's a unique situation for me. I have never gone through a transition like this with a sponsor and a team," said Newman, who has been behind the wheel of the No. 12 Dodge full-time for Penske Racing since 2002 and will finish the 2008 season there. "I couldn't have put any plan together better [for the future] than to be a part of Stewart-Haas Racing with the No. 39 U.S. Army Chevrolet. It's truly an honor, and I look forward to it."

Winfield joked that whenever Newman and Stewart stand in front of the No. 39 Chevy, "you'll be able to visualize 1.2 million soldiers standing behind them. We bring our own fan club. It's a pretty big deal."

The San Diego Chargers Vs. the Indianapolis Colts 1/03/09

The CHARGERS! Oh what kind of wack season they are having. Ladanian Tomlinson the star running back has been struggling lately this year with injuries. This last game against the Broncos he pulled his groin. He had a amazing game though. He scored 3 touchdowns and made himself a few touchdowns away from having the most career touchdowns.

Vincent Jackson had some great catches. They were all good attempt when thrown to him too.

Plus wow watching Darren Sproles the 5'6 short running back but fast and very elusive. He managed to score twice being the top rusher for the Chargers in this game. I hear everyone's new nickname for Sproles, Lightning bug.

Jacob Hester , the new fullback scored his first touch down that game and was excited and got to spike the ball. Nate kaeding was able to get some good kicks in for some field goals. The biggest play i saw was when Line backer Shaun phillips hit the ball when Jay Cutler passed it and it when down to Luis Castillo the defensive end and he got a pick. His first in his whole nfl career.

So the Bolts were able to dominate the horses as they won 52-21 leaving the Broncos out of the playoffs.

The Chargers have yet a challenge on monday against the colts. See my next article about the Colts.

Why Conservation is Important to Anglers

The same basic conservation tip applies to all angles whether fishing in fresh or saltwater. You need to obey the laws regarding the sport. These laws were put into place for the preservation of game species. Following the laws regarding size, seasons, and limits will help maintain various fish populations at sustainable levels for generations of anglers to come.

When planning a fishing trip, take the time to learn as much about the type of fish and laws that regulate their season as possible. Your first benefit from this will be that you will stay out of jail and avoid paying expensive fines. Learning about the species will arm you with the information about the best way to catch the fish. It will also give you insight into why the regulations are in place for that particular type of fish.

Knowing this will guide you in whether to practice catch and release or to just keep the fish that are caught. If there are size limits for your catch, you have to release those that do not fall within the guidelines. Some fish cannot be kept below a certain size. Others have a lower and upper limit. In the one case, it allows for larger fish to be available later to anglers. In the other case, it assures an adequate breeding stock will survive the fishing season.

After learning and following the rules, you need to learn the proper way to catch and handle the fish that you intend to release. It does little good to release a fish that you have damaged too much for it to survive. If you can get the fish off of your hook without taking it from the water, you have done a great service to the fish.

On the other hand, if you pull the fish from the water, take 15 or 20 pictures of you holding it in a dozen different poses and pass it around to friends and family, you have sealed the fate of the fish before you ever attempt to return it to the water. The same is true if you choose to use tackle that is not matched to your anticipated catch.

Broken lines that are attached to the wrong type of hooks will just prolong the agony of the fish before death claims it. If you overtax the fish before landing it, you will return a fish to the water who lacks the energy and strength to feed properly or to avoid predator fish.

Things like using undersized game fish for bait is a bad idea. Besides being illegal, you are destroying your own sport before you get to enjoy it. Overfishing can reduce populations until they no longer have a season offered. However, returning every fish to the water may have the same effect if too many fish survive and deplete the food available for the species. Many will die from disease and starvation.

Conservation has a certain amount of environmental concerns, too. Avoiding the temptation to litter even when out to sea is important. Many man made substances do not erode in the natural and create hazards in the habitat that furnishes the fish to anglers. Even some fishing equipment like fishing line can be a problem.

How to Work Out to Prepare for Baseball Season

Working out for any sports team can be fun as well as challenging, but baseball is one of the hardest sports to get ready for, because it requires not only upper, core, and lower body strength, but also hip strength. This hip strength can be difficult to build, but if you know what you're doing, then you'll have no problems.

I’ll go through this guide by area of body, but some of the exercises help multiple parts of the body; I’ll let you know. First, I’ll deal with arm strength.

Arm Strength: One of the best ways to build arm strength is with two words everyone hates to hear: push ups! An easy way to do pushups throughout your workout are with 10/9/8’s, or repeated pushups, planks and crunches. Do 10 pushups, hold the last one in plank position for 1 second, then push up. Do 10 crunches. Now do 9 pushups, hold the last one in plan position for 2 seconds, then push up. Do 9 crunches. Repeat this until you get to 1. Another good way to build arm strength is at the bench. Bench press 20 lbs, 50 lbs, 100 lbs, 250 lbs, as many as you can and repeat.

Leg strength: One of the easiest ways to build leg strength is jumping! I don’t mean jumping jacks, but actual leaping. Take a sturdy chair or box or something sturdy with about a 3-foot height outside or into a room with a high ceiling and a sturdy floor, and jump on and off. If you can’t land both feet on it, get something smaller. Want a better workout for your arms while you do this? Grab a pair of dumbbells, but limit yourself to maybe 20-30 lbs. Also, take some chalk or some cones and mark a 4-foot distance and try to leap from one line to past the other and land on both feet. Find a comfortable distance (it can be more or less than four feet) and do this over and over.

Core muscles: Go back and look at 10/9/8’s first of all. Now, try to do 60 seconds of plank. Put your forearms on the floor and get in a plank position (note: plank means your body, from your head to your hips, and your hips to your feet, should form two straight lines that are barely at different angles). Hold this for a minute. If that’s too easy, go for 2 or 3. Don’t do more than 5 minutes at a time, for health concerns. Sit ups and crunches are also a good way to help your core muscles. If you really want to work those core muscles, get a weight (doesn’t have to be a dumbbell) and hold it. When you lay down, bring it back and touch the floor behind your head. When you sit up, hold it out in front of you as if you’re going to give it to someone.

Hip strength: Besides actually swinging a bat or throwing a ball, one of the best (and one of the only) ways to build hip strength is to do torso twists, holding as heavy of a weight as you can still move easily with. Do a few sets of 50 of these per day, and when tryouts roll around, you’ll be hitting it out of the park!

I hope this has helped you out, and good luck in whatever your baseball-related endeavor may be!

NOTE: please be sane about this; drink lots of water, and don’t push yourself too hard. Unfortunately, I cannot guarantee that these will alone cause you to make a team or significantly improve performance, but they should help. They have worked for me, so they should work for you.

Roger Federer's Interview on Swiss Television

This is neither a transcript nor a direct translation from the Allemannic (Swiss German) to English as that would be too complicated to accomplish. It is rather a summary of what Roger Federer said in the interview given on October 19, 2008, on Swiss Television.

Roger Federer commented on the season 2008 so far: That the beginning of the current season had been very difficult for him, as he didn't know at the time he played the Australian Open that he was actually seriously ill. He had only noticed a heaviness of mind and slowness on the court which he couldn't really explain to himself. He stated that in general terms he had been quite satisfied with the season so far considering the circumstances. What was very stressful to the former number one tennis player was that he had to reshuffle his training sessions to get back to form after the illness. The combination of this reshuffling with more tournaments to play including the Olympics was taking its toll on him.

As opposed to the last three years, it meant he had to intersperse hard training sessions between the tournaments instead of having a few days off. This in turn caused him to arrive at tournaments not at the peak of his abilities, as opposed to the two previous years, when he usually was in perfect timing to get his best tennis onto the court at the tournaments.

He said he still had been far behind with his training in Paris when he lost Roland Garros to Rafael Nadal. Therefore it had not surprised him that he had lost that final nor actually the result of it. To win against Nadal one can't play 90% and expect to win anything.

As to Wimbledon, it had been very hard on him to lose that title to Rafael Nadal, but on the other hand he himself had certainly played the best match of his life. He rather suspected that Nadal had done that, too. He declined to comment on the press hype about the best match ever played.

He also commented on the press coverage on himself during this year. He stated that he had been a bit hurt when after losing to Djokovic at the Australian Open he had already been written off by the papers or at least into crisis. It had surprised him even more that they had been so negative after Wimbledon and that this was not quite in keeping with the hype about the match. He was especially negative about ‘certain commentators who had played no mean tennis themselves and talked like this was the end, when they should know better, having had their problems in their time as well'.

For him the Olympics Gold medal together with Stanislas Wawrinka had been for him a turning point in a season he had been satisfying but not a highlight. After that he knew that he was going to be back in form again for the American Open. The Olympics medal in tennis double had been very special for playing in team and had been psychologically very satisfying. It also boded well for the future concerning the Davis Cup. He wanted to have it clearly stated that he had not said that Switzerland would win the Davis Coup, but that he was considering a serious attempt in that direction if Stanislas Wawrinka was willing.

Queried on his being seen in a jewellers' shop in Dubai, he laughed. Plans for marriage are not ripe. But it didn't surprise him at all that he had been seen there as it was one of the best known addresses for Europeans to shop. Queried again on how it felt to be permanently in the public eye, he said that it was not too bad for them (meaning himself and his life partner former tennis player Mirka Vavrinec). In Switzerland in general the press is very respectful towards his private life. People in Switzerland are very reticent and do him the favour of ignoring him when meeting him on the road somewhere.

Commenting on the Swiss Indoors tournament commencing in Basel this week, he said he was definitely playing and willing to win. He also thinks that his fitness and preparation is sufficient to win it discounting any negative influence of having lost against Andy Murray. He said that he tournament in Basel was certainly the most difficult for him not to play it being his hometown. As an added plus he added that he enjoyed it immensely to be home again and to meet with family and friends while here.

One of his major joys, he said, was organising the Pizza dinner at the end of the tournament with the ball boys and girls, as he himself had first done that at the age of 13. He remembered being extremely nervous at that time to come so near to tennis greats like Boris Becker. His next highlight had been playing in the Qualifying round a few years later. As Wimbledon Junior Champion he had received a wild card the following year and received a lesson from André Agassi, but it was just great, he said.

He finally commented on the placement of Stanislas Wawrinka and that he was very happy for him. He hoped to meet him in the final of Basel, this being necessary for Stan to be able to take part in Shanghai's Masters Tournament.

College Football 2009 Season: What Will Happen

Clemson

Texas Tech

Utah

It will be a crazy year for football this season. I am really excited to see what happens. This year Florida will be #1 with their starting quarterback Tim Tebow winning the Heisman Trophy for the second year in a row. Many people believe that Georgia will become the National Champion this year, but Georgia will choke at the most important time (the end of the season.) LSU will have another close to undefeated year, and by their luck will be chosen to play Florida in the National Championship.

This year many teams ranked not as high could make some noise. Utah could go undefeated. With their first game at Michigan they could pull an upset. With a struggling Michigan team with a brand new Coach and quarterback. Utah also has Oregon State, BYU, and TCU all at home this year. With those four wins the rest of the season will be a piece of cake, and then they will have their second BCS appearance.

Another team that could make a surprise is BYU (A Mountain West Conference team along with the Utah Utes.) This year BYU is downgrading their schedule in order to make a BCS bid. Meanwhile Utah is upgrading their schedule by playing Michigan and Oregon State. If BYU beats TCU and Utah on the road they will have a great shot at making a BCS game.

This year is going to be an exciting year. I could see a lot of upsets coming this year. I think many teams and players will surprise people this year. You'll just need to sit by the T.V. and soak it all in. So lets get ready for the 2009 college football season!

The 2007-2008 season started off with a bang for the Ottawa senators. They were setting records for most wins in the start of the season, but they soon started heading down, horribly, barely making the playoffs, but they ended up placing 7th, just to lose to the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first round.

Jason Spezza had another phenomanal season though, recording 34 goals and 58 assists, for a total of 92 Points. This is all for my first article, I will be back with a Recap of the Montreal Canadiens, with more In-depth detail, when I have more time, because I dont have that much time right now. Anyways thanks for reading, Peace OUT

West Coast in Problems for Season Ahead

The West Coast Eagles are in crisis mode after their fourth straight lose to South Australian team Port Adelaide last Sunday afternoon when Port defeated West Coast 104 - 128.

Many people are saying that they are getting the effects after losing Brownlow medallists Ben Cousins and Chris Judd, whilst former Eagles defender Daniel Chick was delisted also. Media reports are saying the lose of the 3 champions have caused them problems which we are seeing now, so early in the season.

West Coast however backed themselves for this season, saying that the lose of the 3 players will not effect them due to them having young guns like Matthew Priddis, Josh Kennedy, Mark LeCras and others which will step up to the empty roles left by the club.

Unfortunately, not a lot has come out of the players so far into the season. They are also facing a lot of out-of-form 2006 premiership player such as; Andrew Embley, Michael Braun, Chad Fletcher and Quinten Lynch. All will need to find some form to get the Eagles going and stop this 4 game losing streak.

Another problem for the Eagles is Daniel Kerr's amount of the ball after he racked up only 13 touches, one being a free kick, against Port Adelaide last Sunday. It is not Daniel's work rate that has decreased, it is the amount of tagging he is receiving that has increased. Chad Cornes got the job of tagging Kerr, which was described as “Wearing Kerr like a glove” from commentators. Some think that the treatment Kerr is receiving is not fair and he should be able to have a free run at the ball. Kerr will play his 150th game against the Western Bulldogs.

But, some good things have come out of the Eagles this season. Rising young talent Ben McKinley is making a great impression on the football world, kicking an average of 4 goals a game this season. Brett Jones is also having a terrific season, giving the Eagles a run out of the back-line the Eagles so desperately need.

West Coast will be playing the Western Bulldogs this Saturday at Telstra Dome in an absolute must win game to restore any hopes for this season and to restore faith.

2008 Baseball Season is Finally Here

We all get to see the new additions perform

on our respective teams. Like for me, the addition of Johan Santana was highly exciting and

his first start as a Met was highly anticipated for me. All over I am sure Mets fans are

celebrating this new addition, in hopes that he will help us make it further and avoid another

embarrassment like the one suffered last season. But as a faithful and true fan, I am always

behind my team and hoping for the best. Unlike those Yankees fans.

As for the Yankees,

ARod's contract has been the forefront of the news. He makes more then some teams. He

certainly makes more than half the teams in the NHL (which the NHL should be getting more

than ARod). I find this appalling and laughable. Like he needs that much money. But who

cares about the Yankees, cause I certainly don't. A bunch of overpaid whiners who can't seem

to get it together. Let's hope that this season is not tainted by news of steroid use amoung the

players. And let's hope that this season is not only exciting, but our teams fair well. And by

that I mean, let's hope the New York Mets kick ass this season.

Until next time sports fans.

Go Cubbies

This is the time of year that people like myself are very optimistic. This year is no different than any other. I am still starting the baseball season out with the belief that the Chicago Cubs are going to win the World Series of Major League Baseball.

I know, all of the nay sayer's out there are already saying, the Chicago Cubs, no way. Let me tell you this much. I feel better about my team's chances this year than I ever have in my entire life. The way that they played the 2nd half of the season last year showed me that they were getting the message that Lou Pinella was sending to them. I loved the way they started playing as a team and the way that they finished. With that said I also feel that they fell apart in the playoffs against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

OK, that was last year this is a new year, with new hope and team that is deeper and much more talented than they were a year ago. They have gotten rid of so many of the problem players that they had last year and they have replaced them this year with players that I think are a vast improvement. The most notable change is Kosume Fukedome in right field this year. They will also have Felix Pie starting the season in center field. The starting right fielder is still Alfonso Soriano. Not a bad outfield, I sure hope no one tries to run against that outfield, they have some of the best arms in baseball, that combined with the speed that they all possess would give us one of the best outfields in baseball.

In the infield, we have sluggers Aramis Ramirez at third base and Derrick Lee at first base. Playing short will be Ryan Theriot in his 2nd season as the starting shortstop for the Cubs; Ryan has decent range, a capable arm and a good eye at the plate. The starting second baseman will be Mark DeRosa. Mark was an excellent journeyman last year and he deserves the shot to be the everyday second baseman of the Chicago Cubs.

Behind the plate will be Giovanni Soto, Giovanni came up late last year and tore the league apart, both with his arm and with his bat. If Giovanni can keep that up this year he will be a contender for the Rookie of the year award.

The Cubs pitching staff will once again be the strength of this team. Carlos Zambrano is the ace. Carlos should have a breakout year and finally win 20 games or more. Ted Lilly will be the #2 starter; Ted won 15 last years, if he can pitch the same he should win at least that this year. The #3 starter is going to be Ryan Dempster; Ryan is making the transition back to starter after being a closer for the last couple of years. If spring training is any indication, he should do very well. Starting in the #4 position will be Rich Hill. Rich had his ups and downs last year. He is still a young picture, but he did lead the team in strikeouts. Expect that from Rich again this year. The #5 starter is going to be Jason Marquis. Jason started strong last year and then finished the season poorly. With Jon Leiber in the bullpen as an insurance starter, don't expect Jason to be given too long a lease this season.

Like I said at the beginning, I feel that this is our year. Go Cubbies.
