Cactus Jack, Dude Love and Mankind are three of his personas though he's more widely known as Mick Foley wrestler and author. This week he begins the next chapter in his career, TNA wrestling employee.
The question remains how he will be used. Here I look into some of the options open to him. Though with TNA's booking committee he could end up in any role.
Commentator, Mick Foley and Jim Ross struck up a very entertaining partnership during Foley's brief run as Smackdowns colour announcer. The reason though it never lasted was because he did not like Vince McMahon constantly shouting him during each broadcast. TNA will give him more leeway and let him commentate how he likes to. The problem is Don West and Mike Tenay are very popular with TNA management and I can't see TNA changing things.
Wrestler, given the state of his body I would be surprised to see Foley in a full time position, though occasional matches are defiantly likely. A lot of people would like to see him wrestle Abyss given how many people compare the two for their many hardcore matches and Abyss's likeness to Mankind.
A program with other young TNA stars such as AJ Styles and Samoa Joe are always likely. Perhaps they may even debut him with a confrontation with Sting who seems to be representing the old guard of TNA, I'm sure Vince Russo will be planning a few swerves if they go down this route.
As a TV personality, instead of having Foley wrestle there is the alternative of using him as a personality. He could be TNA commissioner though they would have to drop Jim Cornette from his role if this were to happen. Many people have been suggesting using him as a mouth piece for one of the established TNA talents, Abyss's name been mentioned by many fans quite frequently.
One last use for Foley would be to have him go into towns were there about to run and do some promoting in the form of interviews to local media outlets. Foley is a very recognisable name and would give TNA more mainstream exposure then someone like Styles, Jarrett or Samoa Joe.
My two cents are that we will get to see a few matches for him, but he will mainly be used as on screen personality. I just hope that he gives some of the younger talent in TNA a rub and puts them over. Long term TNA wrestling will benefit from this.
