However, recently, the “Federer Express” has been experiencing some technical difficulties. Namely, Rafael Nadal, the intense, young Spaniard with his powerful guns and never ending stamina, who has recently pounded his way to the throne at both Wimbledon and the French Open. Nadal is now only 300 points behind Federer.
So, the question everyone has been asking: Is Federer's reign at an end? The answer to that question is a very debatable one. I recently talked with a close friend of mine, “Mr. Anonymous.” He thought that Federer was battling the adversary that any champion must eventually face, and perhaps, not overcome. Like Sampras versus Agassi, Ivan Lendl versus Michael Chang, Bjorn Borg versus John McEnroe, Roger Federer, with his smooth, composed style must try to fight off Nadal and his furious, passionate energy.
If this is true, Roger's duel with Rafael Nadal is not an event just anyone can speculate on. The outcome lies within the contestants themselves, where will combines with skill to form performance. Who knows? What if Bjorn Borg had not given up on championship after losing to McEnroe? Would he have made a comeback and dominated even more strongly than ever?
Whatever happens, you can be sure that Federer vs. Nadal is the greatest rivalry in history.
