I recently have been taking up on the beauty of ping pong. I may seem like a 2 nd rate sport and that it is considered the “nerd way to play tennis”, but all in all it is a great game. It takes a moment to learn but a lifetime to master in my opinion, and that is because I have only being playing for a couple of weeks and I think I am god's gift to the game, and that I was born to play table tennis. It took only a day of playing solidly, to develop clear smashes, insane spin, and the counter smash. For this reason alone I thought I should try my luck at a club or some event, as my dream after that day was to play in London 2012 Olympics.
Well I did go to the club, and I asked if I could play a few rounds of table tennis with a few of the members, and the politely agreed with a chuckle. I thought it was a faster version of tennis because the learning curve was so steep, as I have been playing tennis for about 7 years and am still terrible, and after a week of ping pong, I feel unstoppable. These big headed thoughts were popped in an instant, as I was beaten 21-3 ( and I was lucky to get three points). What made the defeat even worse was when I saw my opponent beaten 21-9 in his next match.
I guess ping pong isn't a game to be thought of as easy. It lured me into a false sense of belief, and crushed me with the same speed and intensity that it brought my big headedness about. Pity my dreams are always crushed…
thanks for writing an article about it!
