I can see that soccer is trying to make a statement with luring David Beckham to the states. Of course Beckham may wanted to trying the American brand of soccer anyway's you never really know. My question is why hasn't soccer taken off in America. Well it has to a certain extent.
Take for example if you go to any grade school or middle school you will see soccer moms and dads supporting there teams as they play after school. Soccer is big in schools, except when you reach the High school level where it tails off. Kids need stars to look up to in America and they find those stars in other sports.
Baseball, basketball, and football have star players on television all the time or pitching products and kids see this. They want to be the next Kobe Bryant or the next Shaq not the next David Beckham. Until soccer promotes itself alot better they will be just like NHL hockey a sport with no identity forever lost trying to capture a market that doesn't exist.
Good article, check out some of mine on football (soccer)
