Some people say all NASCAR is, is turning left, stepping on the gas, and going in a big circle. Well for one, it's not all left because road courses have right turns. And two, I'd like to see who ever thinks NASCAR is just turning left actually drive a race. Temperatures soar to 110 F in the car that they drive in for several hours. That takes both physical and mental training to deal with that while going an excess of 180 mph+ with other cars just inches away. Just one twitch of the wheel and you, the car, and most of the cars and their drivers around you are gone, bye-bye, cya later in the hospital. Most of the time it's not that serious but when they are bad, you don't want to be near that car.
Then there is the pit crew. They can change 4 tires, fuel a car, repair some damage, clean your windshield, and adjust the wedge in less than 20 seconds! Try doing that to your parent's car with some of your friends. I bet you couldn't get in done in 20 minutes.
Now back to the driver because some cars still don't have power steering which means for some of you non-car guys, that you have to turn the wheels the way you want them to go when they want to go a completely different way. Also, as I said before, Temperatures can reach around 110F in the car, and that's on a good day. With all of the above said added up, together the driver can loose up to 10 lbs in a single race. Try that weight loss plan!
Then there's the money, ah, sweet, sweet money. Don't we all just love that green? Well drivers do earn a lot of it but they don't keep much. That money has to go to the team for research, chassis, engine, gas, tires, parts, crew salaries, and pay checks. Then you got your advertisements and your sponsors which all have to be in on a percent of that money. That added up, the money goes away really fast. Then if someone gets hurt, there's the medical bill, which can get really high in some major wrecks.
So what if I said all baseball was is hitting a ball and running around four bases? Or that basketball is just throwing a ball into a hoop? Or that football is just catching a ball and running? Why don't you think NASCAR can be a sport?
So that being said, do you think NASCAR can be a sport? If not, then you're entitled to you own opinion and I respect that but right or wrong, NASCAR is not only a sport, it's a way of life for a lot of us.
