Racing and pacing, striving and driving, going faster and faster, chasing one dream to be the best, simply the best.
Drafting number 8 in that number 3 car, Daytona International Speedway holds memories for the Earnhardt family. In 1998, he finished first before 41 other cars. Dreams would never begin to describe how happy he was, his entire pit crew jumping with joy and smiles on their faces. His son coming down to congratulate him on his well-earned victory and to celebrate with his dad...and that famous one million dollar check from the Daytona 500 race in Daytona, Florida.
However, no one would know this would be one of his last Daytona victories because he would later die. On February 1st, 2001, after the 41st Daytona 500, he was on the last lap when his car careened out of control and slammed into the wall at 120-plus miles per hour.
He made it to the hospital alright, but once he got to the emergency room he died.
Dale's family had suffered a huge loss when in “The Intimidator” died.
I miss Dale Earnhardt as much as his family does but no matter what and no matter where, the Number 3 car and Dale Earnhardt are in our minds and hearts.
Here are a few pictures of Dale.
