In the stock Ruger 10/22, the bolt strikes the steel bolt stop pin every time you shoot the rifle. As you can imagine, metal hitting metal thousands, even hundreds, of times cannot be good for the action of the rifle. A simple upgrade to your rifle can avoid any complications related to this problem and possibly lengthen the life of your 10/22 by decades and only for about six dollars.
You can purchase a bolt buffer at several websites including TKO22 , Volquartsen , and WeaponKraft
Alternatively, you can build your own bolt buffer for about 50 cents. All you have to do is go to your local Lowe's or Home Depot and buy a 1/4"X 3" nylon bolt. Just cut it down to size and you have your very own 10/22 bolt buffer.
