A short guide on how to do a proper backflip. Please be careful.
Stand with your feet together and your hands straight out in front of you
Start to swing your arms backwards, and as you are doing that, start to bend your knees
When your hands are straight behind you, your knees should be at around a 90 degree angle
Start to swing your arms forward as you push off the ground. Your arms should be swung forcefully to get the maximum momentum.
Explode off the ground and push your arms up as if you are trying to grab something
When you have reached the peak of your jump you should begin the “tuck.”.
While you are in the peak of your jump, you should swing your body backwards while simultaneously bringing your knees into your body
You can grab your knees and pull yourself backwards to try to complete the revolution as soon as possible
Now comes the easy part: the landing
Once you have completed your revolution, let go of your knees and try to bend your knees a little bit at the landing to soften it. (This is not mandatory)
Do not feel bad if you cannot bring yourself to do the tuck. It is the hardest part of the back flip and the part that takes the most guts. Once you have done it once though, you will see how easy it is. It took be about 2 weeks to bring myself to do the tuck.
