Top Five Potential Busts From the 2008 NFL Draft

First off I'm not saying the players listed below aren't good players nor am I claiming that they do not have the tools to be successful in the NFL. However when you look at the facts the five players I have listed here have the best chance of being a wasted pick because of the reasons I will specify below.

  1. Matt Ryan QB

Ryan has a good arm and his leadership and intangibles are what make him worth the hype. However if you look at the negatives the Falcons may have easily wasted a top five pick. Ryan has question marks with his decision making and accuracy. He threw a staggering 19 interceptions last year as a senior. Ryan also doesn't have the greatest footwork. He throws a nice ball most of the time but he still wasn't worth that high of a pick.
  2. Chad Henne QB

I know he wasn't a first round pick but even second round picks can be a waste. During his time at Michigan Henne never seemed to mature or grow into a better player. He has a decent arm but there isnt much else. His footwork needs improvement and his accuracy is very up and down. He doesn't always make the best decisions and panicks in pressure situations. I just don't see him being much of a NFL QB but maybe he'll prove me wrong.
  3. Vernon Gholston DE

Gholston has a ton of talent and natural athletic ability. He may easily be one of the best athletes in this past years draft. The problem with him is he doesn't always play the hardest and is known to sometimes take plays off mentally. If he gives a 100 percent at all times he could easily be great. Unfortunately the possibility still remains that he just doesn't have the motivation or work ethic in him to succeed.
  4. Glenn Dorsey DT

Dorsey has good natural athletic ability and a knack for making plays. This is where the positives stop. Dorsey has a injury history that could concern almost any scout. He also has issues with his work ethic and tends to take plays off as well.
  5. Duane Brown OT

The Texans must know something that no one else knows. Brown is a former TE that doesn't really excel at any one area. He has decent athletic ability but isnt pro ready and was nowhere close to being worth a first round pick.
