Brett Favre has now signed his reinstatement papers and has faxed them to the NFL. What does this mean for the Green Bay Packers and Brett Favre? The Packers are going to find it increasingly more difficult to trade Favre now that all the teams are in training camp with the preseason approaching. If the Packers can't work a deal out on sending their legend away what can they do? The Packers have said all off season that Rodgers is their starting Quarterback this year. But can they really have Favre as a backup? I don't think so. Brett Favre has done so much for this organization and he is the best Quarterback to line up under center this year.
I know the Packers are really high on Rodgers and it's understandable. But Rodgers has not proven himself. Showing what you can do in practice and proving it on the field is completely different. Plenty of Quarterbacks have come into the League with high hopes and lots of potential. But how many of them actually prove themselves on the field. If you look at some of the other 1st round picks in the last few years very few are good or great players. Take some players like Rex Grossman, Kyle Boller, David Carr, and Matt Leinart. All of them supposedly had great skills and were going to be great players. And then there is Alex Smith. A guy that was drafted before Aaron Rodgers was. Since being in San Francisco he hasn't been good and now he is competing for a starting job with Shaun Hill. You can't tell what a Quarterback is going to do when he is in the spotlight. Especially in Rodgers case trying to fill the shoes of Favre.
Every NFL team wants to win. And Brett Favre is the right Quarterback for the Packers to win this year. The Packers are a lot better of a team than last year. And last year the Packers suffered a heartbreaking overtime loss in the NFC Championship game. Yes Rodgers has two years left on his contract and surely if Favre comes back as the starter Rodgers won't be happy with the Packers and will want to move on somewhere else. But the Packers drafted Brian Brohm. Brohm is another player that has a lot of talent yet he is unproven just like Rodgers.
All this drama is not Favre's fault, nor is it the Packers. The NFL is a business and sometimes stuff like this happens. Sure both parties could have done things differently to avoid this but neither intended for this to happen. But no matter what happens Favre is a legend and fans will never forget what he has accomplished as a Green Bay Packer. The fans have to realize that no matter how this turns out in the next couple weeks, Favre is a legend in Green Bay. There is one question you have to ask yourself before hating Favre. Where were the Packers before Brett Favre?
