I don't know how many of you watched the Kentucky Derby
this weekend, as I did. But it was a fascinating race, the horses
seemed to all be, in good form, there might have been a little
brushing of two horses, but over all, the race was run fairly safe,
and clean. Big Brown was a favorite to win, there was another
horse in the race, named Eight Belles, this horse, a filly, was
chosen by Senator Hillary Clinton to win the race. While she
was campaigning, she asked her audience, at one of her stops,
to cheer for Eight Belles, if I am not mistaken, Eight Belles
was a long shot, running against thoroughbreds, in the race.
Female horse against male horses, naturally the horse would
be at a disadvantage, due to stamina, or just the build of male
horse, as opposed to a female horse. I am sure fillies, have won
against male horses in the past. Now, mind you, no one told
Mrs. Clinton, I'm sure, and maybe they should have, why
put yourself on the line like that, if the horse comes in last, you
have to make some kind of excuse for your choice, having lost.
But no, she took the risk, what the heck, it's only a horse race.
Now, I will let you draw your own conclusions, because I am
talking about symbolism here. Not only did Big Brown win the
race, I won't put any one person's name up, as to who Big Brown
might represent here but, well, we'll leave it there. But here's
what happened, Big Brown won, by leaving all the other horses
at least two lengths behind. But poor Eight Belles, and I do feel
sorry for the horse, I love horses, fell down on the track, after the
the race was over, and broke her two front ankles. She had run so
hard, she was probably overly stressed, the only thing they could
do, after examining Eight Belles, was to employ euthanasia. Sad,
sad, set of events for the poor horse.
I do look at circumstances, and I look at outcomes, and symbolic
instances. When George H. W. Bush, was running against Bill
Clinton, and he visited China, I believe, for some kind of
ceremonial dinner, he happened to get sick, or was sick and was
unlucky enough, to have cameras rolling, when he upchucked
and passed out on the floor. All this was on television, before an
international audience. At that time, I said to myself, he's going
to lose the election. Symbolic. When Senator Bob Dole, was
campaigning against Bill Clinton, and was standing on a stage,
outdoors, he reached down after his speech, to shake some of his
well wishers hands, and Mr. Dole lost his balance, fell off the stage,
on to the ground, didn't hurt himself, maybe his pride, but he
jumped right up and went on shaking hands, as if nothing had
happened.
No problem, but again, symbolic, to me anyway. I
said to myself , when I saw him falling, on tape, on the news,
later, he's going to lose. Symbolic. Now this is all conjecture
on my part, and maybe Senator Clinton won't lose the primary
election, but, in my eyes, by her selecting Eight Belles, and the
horse running its heart out, like crazy, to win the Kentucky Derby,
one of the biggest prizes in horse racing, it is very ironic, that after
trying so very hard to capture something, that was not going to be
hers, the poor horse, is now in horse heaven, don't laugh. Big Brown,
on the other hand, goes on, to find out if he can be, a triple crown
winner this year. Just speculating, take it all, with a grain of salt,
symbolism.
