Michael Jordan in many circles is considered the greatest basketball player of all time. Others may disagree with me but I have compelling reasons that he is the greatest. You can never really judge a player by his greatness just on the basketball court as sometimes things he influences is just important.
Jordan transcended time as he crossed many boundaries that other players never have. Jordan was popular with everyone. I guess the one thing Jordan did that most players haven't been able to do is captured everyone's imagination. From the smallest kid to the oldest adult Jordan was popular.
The other reason Jordan will never ever be replaced is his selling power. Jordan single handed brought up an industry when it was in the dumps. The Basketball card industry struggled before Jordan came along. Once he arrived the market took off like a wildfire. Companies knew with Jordan in the pack they always had a winner and sales followed.
Jordan is the only athlete that has done that and no one has come close since. After he retired and than un retired his cards shot up. His staying power is remarkable and even after his retirement he still will be the greatest ever.
