Well it has been over half of the season and the Detroit Tigers can't seem to win many games. The one problem this year that we knew was going to hurt them since the beginning of the season was pitching. The bullpen is losing many games when starting pitchers come out. But starting pitching this year was also a problem. The only starting pitchers with more wins then loses are Armando Galarraga with 10 wins and Zach Miner with 6 wins. They weren't even on the starting roster to start the season too.
Now if you think the offense was the problem then read this! They were supposed to have one of the top offensive teams this year. It was predicted they would score 1,000 runs as a team. But as of August 10th they are on 595 runs with a 496 winning percentage. But even know 595 team runs is ranked one of the highest, you have to look at the 567 runs given up. If that was lowered to around 480-500 they would be fine and leading the American league central. So that's why runs aren't the problem.
Now to talk about the bullpen. With only 3 people below 3.20 ERA in the bullpen it is hard to close out games. The rest of the bullpen has a ERA 3.80 or above. About 2/5th's of the games the Tigers lost are from the bullpen. With the injuries from good bullpen pitchers it is hard to win games. Like Joel Zumaya out most of the season. So that's part of the problem with the bad season.
Lastly all the injuries to all the players all year long. The Zumaya ,Rodney, Magglio, Granderson, Thames, and Sheffield injuries it's hard to win many games. They started the season off with Granderson, Rodney, and Zumaya on the disabled list. But Granderson came back around 15 days after and Rodney and Zumaya came back 2 ½ months later.
