There are many people in the world that I would like to meet. Jackie Robinson is above them all. I like Jackie because he never fought with anyone during his hard times. I admire everything he went through to become a star. Lastly, I love his passion for the game. I would treasure every single second I spend with Jackie.
Jackie Robinson is admired for many things, but I like him most for how he never fought after being teased. Because Jackie Robinson was black, he was treated like a beast of burden. If I were Jackie I wouldn't put up with being mistreated and would eventually get mad and hurt someone. Jackie Robinson never fought. Opposing teams and even teammates pushed and spiked Jackie just because he was black. 85% of the people who saw a black spit or pushed them.
Martin Luther King Jr., a person against racism, along with Jackie was two of the few who stood up for racism. On top of all of this physical torture, Jackie was also mistreated on T.V. Jackie Robinson once said that he ignores all of the media and just tries to focus on the game. I think that is a great way to think and that is how he got through it all. Although it seems like Jackie went through tough times in the big league, but as a child Jackie faced far more difficult times.
Many people say they have a hard life, but Jackie actually had one. As a child Jackie had neighbors as mean as pit bulls. He and his siblings had to walk to school with a mirage of rocks and dirt thrown at them every day. On top of all this he had to sit in school for long hard hours with those same neighbors.
During high school, Jackie was a star in basketball, track and baseball and received a scholarship to UCLA in all three sports. Now 85% of the people at his school admired him. Bob Smith, a classmate with Jackie said, “Jackie is the best at everything he does; he is like a god. Meanwhile, Jackie decided after college he would play baseball so he joined the Negro League. Jackie's talent was soon recognized on his first game when he belted two long home runs in a row. I would be incredibly nervous and strike out. Jackie's first steps in baseball were great, but his love for the game is what kept him going.
People say that passion is what keeps you going. That statement definitely occurred for Jackie. The thing that amazes me most is how after being treated like dirt, Jackie still stuck with the game. With people constantly telling him to quit because he was the only black, Jackie stuck with it. With the loss of his brother and mom in the same year he kept going on.
Next, his love for the game shows in his numerous records. To Jackie the records mean nothing but for his several fans they mean everything. Jackie's accomplishments are only just one thing that makes him special. Lastly, he was good at baseball even under all the pressure. If the records don't show you his stats sure do. Jackie Robinson is known best for his skill in baseball and his passion to succeed.
I would love to spend just one day with Jackie. Jackie Robinson who never fought is my idol. His life was so hard, it makes mine look like I grew up in a castle. His love of the game is so strong he never thought about giving up. These are merely three of the many reasons why I would like to meet Jackie. Jackie was not just a baseball player to me; he was a hero as well.
